Emmanuel Petit played with some great players at Arsenal and elsewhere during his time as a player.

The Frenchman donned the colours of big clubs like Monaco, Arsenal, Barcelona and Chelsea back in the day, and he also was a key member of the France national team.

The now-52-year-old came on Sky Sports as a guest on Monday night, and he was asked to name his best XI of teammates he has played with.

Jamie Carragher reacts after Emmanuel Petit snubs Patrick Vieira and Tony Adams

Petit played a big part in helping Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal win the double in 1998.

He partnered Patrick Vieira in the middle of the park and that is known to this day as one of the greatest midfield partnerships in the history of the Premier League.

Behind them was Tony Adams in the heart of the defence. The former Arsenal captain is among the best defenders to ever play the game as well.

When Petit was asked to name his best XI of teammates, everyone expected Vieira and Adams to make the squad, but they were both snubbed.

That surprised Jamie Carragher, who said: “I am shocked by a couple of the names.

“For me, John Terry is one of the greatest central defenders. I’m thinking of Tony, Tony Adams. I’ve always been a huge John Terry fan. That’s a big decision.”

Petit replied: “I can only take 11 players though. Even in midfield, Patrick, Frank Lampard, for example.”

Petit’s Best Teammates XI features just two Arsenal legends

We must admit that seeing Vieira and Adams not make the cut shocked us as well.

The former, in particular, was unbelievable alongside Petit at Arsenal as well as the French national team, and not seeing him in that XI was a bit strange.

Barcelona legend Xavi Hernandez was picked above Vieira, while Chelsea great John Terry got the nod over Adams.

Petit did pick two Arsenal legends in his team – Dennis Bergkamp as a number 10 and Thierry Henry as one of his two strikers.

Here’s Petit’s best XI in full: Barthez, Thuram, Desailly, Terry, Amoros, Xavi, Zidane, Rivaldo, Bergkamp, Henry, Weah.
