Jamie Carragher has revealed that he believes one Liverpool star would help Arsenal win the Premier League title.

On Saturday evening, the two lock horns in a top-of-the-table clash that decides who will enter Christmas Day top of the pile.

Arsenal currently hold a one-point advantage over Liverpool but travel to Anfield having not won there since 2012.

It’s a record that Mikel Arteta will be desperate to end and he’ll need every single one of his players fully concentrated on the task at hand, including his goalkeeper.

The battle between David Raya and Aaron Ramsdale for a place in between the sticks has been a fascinating one for all the wrong reasons.

Although many sections of the fanbase prefer Ramsdale, Raya has started in 12 of the last 13 Premier League matches, despite making multiple errors during that run.

It is fair to say that Arsenal need to sign a world-class keeper to fix a position that has caused Arteta the most headaches this term.

Jamie Carragher believes Alisson would win Arsenal the Premier League

The key ingredient to any title-winning team is boasting a world-class keeper in goal and that is where Arsenal fall short against their rivals.

Manchester City have the imperious Ederson, Aston Villa have World Cup-winning goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez and Liverpool have arguably the best keeper on the planet, Alisson Becker.

And Carragher believes Liverpool’s sensational shot-stopper, who they signed from Roma for £56 million in 2018, would win Arsenal the Premier League.

In his column for the Telegraph, he wrote: “If Arsenal had Alisson Becker they would be almost guaranteed a minimum of nine extra points, which would win them the title.”

Last season, it was the injury to William Saliba that ultimately caused them to lose ground on Man City, who cantered to their third title on the bounce.

This time around, however, not having a world-class keeper like the rest of their rivals could cost them in the long run.

Arsenal need to address their goalkeeper issue

Since arriving on loan from Brentford in the summer, Raya has been prone to dropping errors and has been hailed as Arsenal’s biggest disappointment this season.

In the 1-0 defeat against Newcastle, he dropped a howler, which allowed Anthony Gordon to tap into the empty net.

He also very nearly cost his side in the 4-3 victory over Luton Town as he made two horrific errors which required Declan Rice to bail him out with a last-minute header.

The Spaniard doesn’t fill his defence with confidence when he’s prone to dropping clangers.

As such, Arteta must look at addressing their goalkeeper situation, perhaps not in January, but next summer when funds will be made available to find a long-term replacement.
