Having scored just five Premier League goals so far this season, Arsenal fans might notβve expected to see Viktor Gyokeres compared to Alan Shearer.
Shearer is actually a fan of Gyokeres, seeing the positives of what the striker has brought to Arsenal besides goals.Β
Right now, the Swede is working hard to speed up his adaptation period following his transfer from Sporting CP in the summer.
Trading the Liga Portugal for the Premier League was always going to be a task, making it unsurprising that Gyokeres is struggling, but all hope is not lost yet.
If you could go back in time and sign another striker for Arsenal instead of Viktor Gyokeres, who would it be and why?
Jamie Carragher compares Viktor Gyokeres to Alan Shearer
If thereβs one thing that can assure fans that the striker will find his shooting boots, itβs that the Arsenal squad are fully backing Gyokeres to succeed.
Such was on show at Hill Dickinson Stadium when Arsenal beat Everton, as Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard handed the 27-year-old the ball to take a penalty.
Though Wayne Rooney didnβt agree with Gyokeres taking the penalty, it was a show of the centre-forwardβs courage and confidence, something that, in Jamie Carragherβs eyes, likens him to one of the best.Β
βThereβs something about the lad, look, I donβt think heβs a top-class player, but thereβs something I love about him,β Carragher said on Sky Sports Monday Night Football.
βThat sort of mentality, βIβm taking the penaltyβ, and when he takes it, heβs taking it properly, almost Shearer-like, the way he puts his foot through the ball.β
Jamie Carragher thinks Viktor Gyokeres is like Alan Shearer, but Gyokeres reminds me of __________.
Carragher likened Gyokeresβ no-nonsense mentality before, during and after taking the penalty, a spot-kick he made no mistake in hammering home.
Shearer might actually agree with Gyokeres comparison
Some might think that comparing Gyokeres to the Premier Leagueβs record goalscorer is way off the mark, but with regard to penalty-taking, itβs not.

Shearer actually praised Gyokeres after the Everton win, applauding him for exactly what Carragher did, stepping up and dispatching the penalty.
βI love that in someone where youβre prepared to put your neck on the line, basically because you havenβt scored for a while, thereβs people talking, thereβs a bit of noise going on, but he says βno, give me the penaltyβ,β Shearer said.
Thereβs one trait that Gyokeres already shares with Shearer; now, Arsenal fans will be eager to see their striker develop many more similarities as time goes on.
