Jens Lehmann believes that Arsenal’s Carabao Cup final defeat could actually light a fire in them, which could help them win the treble.
The Gunners had been hoping to complete a historic quadruple; however, they were beaten 2-0 in the Carabao Cup final by Manchester City.
Will Arsenal go unbeaten until the end of the season after the Carabao Cup final defeat?
Nico O’Reilly netted a brace, which saw Mikel Arteta suffer his first-ever defeat at Wembley Stadium and miss out on the first leg of the quadruple.
But despite the big disappointment, the German goalkeeper is now backing his former club to go on a strong run in all competitions.
Jens Lehmann backs Arsenal to win the treble
Jens Lehmann is now backing Arsenal to win the treble this season after being inspired to put a run together following their cup final defeat.
The former Arsenal star was very impressed by City at Wembley, but claims that Arsenal should not be disheartened by the defeat.
The Arsenal Invincibles’ goalkeeper now thinks it should make them want to finish the season strong and beat Pep Guardiola’s team.
Speaking about the final, Lehmann told TalkSPORT: “To be honest, I don’t think it will harm their efforts to win now everything because it should create some anger, and City was having a very good game, particularly in the second half, obviously.
If Arsenal could only win one trophy out of the Premier League and the Champions League this season, which one would you pick and why?
William Saliba prefers the Champions League. What about you?
“Arsenal missed out on showing a little bit of leadership and changing the approach in the second half. That’s why they lost.”
Arteta’s team have proved many times that they can bounce back following setbacks this term, and they must do that immediately after the latest international break.
Arsenal face a crucial run after the international break
After the international break, Arsenal will be looking to bounce back in the FA Cup as they travel away to Southampton.
The Gunners will fancy their chances of winning that competition, although they could end up facing City once again.
In the Premier League, they have Bournemouth at home, before then travelling away to the Etihad for the crucial clash with City.
In between those two Premier League matches, they face Sporting CP in the Champions League, with a great chance of reaching the semi-finals.
If they can beat the Portuguese club, they will face either FC Barcelona or Atletico Madrid in the final four of the competition.
