Arsenal have got off to a great start this season.

The Gunners are sitting second in the Premier League table, while they’ve won each of their first two Champions League games as well.

However, despite their strong start, some questions have still been raised at Arsenal in recent times.

Declan Rice was questioned at the beginning of the season, while many can’t make their minds up on Viktor Gyokeres.

Gyokeres has been praised at times, while, in other instances, Viktor Gyokeres has been scapegoated for perceived poor performances.

Speaking on the Wildcards Podcast, Jermaine Jenas has been discussing Gyokeres’ start to life at Arsenal, and he made an interesting point about the striker.

Viktor Gyokeres doesn’t look great in this Arsenal team

Jenas pinpointed why some people aren’t so keen on Gyokeres.

Indeed, according to the pundit, Gyokeres sticks out like a sore thumb due to his technical ability, claiming that he isn’t on the same level as the likes of Eberechi Eze, Martin Odegaard and Arsenal’s other more proficient players.

“I think the problem with Gyökeres is this, yeah. When you watch him, he just stands out like a sore thumb in such a beautiful footballing team. They all can play,” Jenas said.

“Saliba can play. Timber can play. Obviously, you’ve got Odegaard and Eze and the wingers and it’s all very clear.

“And he is just this robust runner, handful. Now, even at the weekend against Newcastle, right? Okay, he didn’t get his goal, but I’m telling you, those centre-halves, they knew they were in a game against Gyokeres.”

Jenas may not be too keen on Gyokeres from a technical standpoint, but he admits that the Swedish striker is brilliant in terms of making runs and

“When you watch Gyökeres, right? He makes certain runs and he’s in certain positions on the football pitch that Arsenal have not had for a number of years.

“And sometimes when fans are watching the game or anybody at home that’s watching Arsenal or even yourself looking at it from the view that Gyökeres is coming in from Sporting Lisbon scored all these goals in Portugal, what they’re not seeing is all the runs that go unnoticed.

“So when that ball comes flashing across the box, he’s there for the tap-ins. They’ve not had a tap-in man for as long as I can remember.”

Gyokeres may not be the most technical player in the Premier League, but he is proving that he can be effective, and as his teammates learn more and more about playing with the striker, he will only improve.
