Mikel Arteta has always been heavily influenced as a coach by Pep Guardiola.
Indeed, after working with Guardiola at Manchester City, Arteta has learned many key principles and ideas from the City boss.
Of course, taking after Guardiola has led to Arteta being recognised as one of the world’s premier coaches as he’s taken Arsenal from being pretenders to contenders in the Premier League.
However, now, Mikel Arteta has seemingly adopted one of Guardiola’s more frustrating traits.
Any Fantasy Premier League player over the years will tell you that Guardiola is a pain in the backside when it comes to rotating his team, as it’s often impossible to call which players will start for Manchester City in key positions.
Arteta now has the squad depth at Arsenal to rotate his key players, much to the annoyance of the FPL community.
Speaking on the Wildcards Podcast, Jermaine Jenas has been discussing this trend, and he says that he was left fuming by one of Arteta’s recent decisions.

Jermaine Jenas fuming after Arsenal drop Declan Rice
Jenas spoke about Mikel Arteta’s team rotation alongside Jermaine Pennant.
The pundit says that he was left fuming last weekend when Declan Rice was dropped vs Nottingham Forest, as he had him as a part of his FPL team.
Rice has been a key player for Arsenal for a long time, but with so many more options at his disposal now, Mikel Arteta can afford to switch things up.
“Arteta is turning into Pep 2.0,” Jermaine Pennant said.
“Yeah taking Rice out. Honestly, fuming with that shout, fuming with that shout. But yeah, this week, I don’t know,” Jenas said.
“Part of me wants to play my Wildcard, but then you just feel like you’re chasing. It’s like, am I rushing it? Am I chasing because I’ve had a bad couple of weeks?”
Mikel Arteta has rotation options in every position
Jenas may have been frustrated to see Arteta rotate his squad vs Nottingham Forest, but there’s plenty more where that came from.
Indeed, this Arsenal team is packed full of talent, and, realistically, Mikel Arteta could change his side on a weekly basis and still be successful.
The amount of talent in this squad is borderline insane.
| Position | First option | Second option |
| Goalkeeper | David Raya | Kepa |
| Right-back | Jurrien Timber | Ben White |
| Centre-back | William Saliba | Cristhian Mosquera |
| Centre-back | Gabriel Magalhaes | Piero Hincapie |
| Left-back | Riccardo Calafiori | Myles Lewis-Skelly |
| Centre midfield | Martin Zubimendi | Christian Norgaard |
| Centre midfield | Declan Rice | Mikel Merino |
| Right wing | Bukayo Saka | Noni Madueke |
| Attacking midfield | Martin Odegaard | Ethan Nwaneri |
| Left wing | Eberechi Eze | Gabriel Martinelli/Leandro Trossard |
| Striker | Viktor Gyokeres | Kai Havertz |
Arteta’s rotation may be frustrating for FPL players, but the fact that Arsenal have this much depth is great for the Gunners.
