We all want Arsenal to be Premier League champions at the end of the season and Joe Cole believes it could come down to how Mikel Arteta conducts himself.
Arteta is one of the most animated and charismatic managers in the game. His behaviour does divide people but ultimately, it’s working for Arsenal right now.
However, while Arteta is seeing success, former Premier League winner Joe Cole believes the Spaniard can also tone things down.
This is Petr Cech’s Arsenal vs Chelsea combined XI. What changes would you make?
Joe Cole says Mikel Arteta should calm down at times
Mikel Arteta has wound a few people up with his behaviour on the touchline – we’re looking at you, Richard Keys – but in the main, he is just trying to inspire.
But according to Joe Cole, that’s not always the way to go about things.
“It’s been this narrative because it’s happened where they’ve tripped over the last few years. And I just look at, whenever I go to the Emirates, it feels nervous. Do you know what I mean? It comes into the air. I think Mikel Arteta, I think, has been brilliant, has a big job,” Cole said for TNT Sports.

“His body language daily, he needs to portray that calmness, you know, and I don’t think that comes natural to him. He’s more of a pusher.
“So I think he needs to portray like a sort of Carlo Ancelotti vibe, just let everyone in the stadium calm down because they have got a great side and they can do it.”
Mikel Arteta should do things his own way
It’s a valid enough comment this from Joe Cole and one that, over time, Mikel Arteta might bring into his management style with experience.
However, for now, his Arsenal team are winning games and sit top of the pile in all competitions they’re in.
For this current Arsenal squad, Arteta’s mannerisms and feisty way on the touchline seems to drive them on, not hold them back as such.
If Bukayo Saka isn’t the key to beating Chelsea, then who is?
It is for that reason that Arteta should simply stick to what he is doing. Yes, there are times for calm and he probably is that figure in the dressing room when the cameras aren’t always on.
Ultimately, the Arsenal boss is doing more things right than wrong right now and with just a small chunk of the season to go, there’s no point in making any drastic changes.
