Arsenal midfielder Jorginho has now heaped praise on Gabriel Martinelli.

Gabriel Martinelli produced as industrious a performance as ever for Arsenal against Wolves on Saturday. The 22-year-old winger ran relentlessly to make his presence felt at both ends of the pitch.

At one stage, the Brazilian tracked back to help out Oleksandr Zinchenko, before galloping up the length of the pitch again, and just seconds later firing a shot at goal which he was unfortunate to see clatter into the post.

Mikel Arteta will have been delighted, although probably not surprised, by the work rate and application which Martinelli exemplified in this match. Despite his relative youth, the attacker is already being hailed as an example for others in the team to follow.

Jorginho was certainly wowed by Martinelli’s efforts this weekend. As quoted by The Standard, the 31-year-old said, “seeing [Gabriel] Martinelli going back to defend and then he sprints 100 metres and hits the post on other side, it is unbelievable. That’s the mentality that we need to have and that is the mentality that we have.”

Why Gabriel Martinelli is such a star for Arsenal

Jorginho has recently spoken out about the importance of Arsenal having the right mindset, and maintaining their focus, throughout the entirety of all matches. Martinelli embodies that commitment and unwavering dedication to the cause. These qualities will enamour the attacker to Arteta as much as his pace, flair, and finishing ability do.

In Martinelli, and Bukayo Saka on the opposite flank, Arteta has two incredibly hard-working wingers on his hands who have become talismanic figures at the Emirates Stadium. The importance of them both staying fit, available, and in form this season cannot be overstated. The north London club will be not be able to achieve their goals for this campaign without those two firing on all cylinders. In recent weeks, both players seem to have hit top form, and are contributing goals, assists, and defensive actions on a regular basis.

Considering the Gunners paid just £6 million to sign Martinelli from Brazilian outfit Ituano in 2019 means that he has has to go down as one of the club’s best value buys in recent years. He has blasted his way past Hale End academy gem Emile Smith Rowe in the pecking order, is keeping Leandro Trossard out of the regular starting XI, and looks set to star for Arsenal for years to come.

Everyone else in Arteta’s squad needs to ensure that they are matching Martinelli’s energy levels and willingness to work for the good of the team on a weekly basis.
