Arsenal star Jorginho is the man of the moment following his outstanding display against Liverpool, and he could be a pivotal figure in the title race.
The 32-year-old’s experience and composure were on full display in what was an important match for Mikel Arteta’s side, as Arsenal fought their way back into the title race.
Arsenal saw their unexpected challenge fall apart last season, and they will be keen to avoid a similar collapse. A player with Jorginho’s intelligence and winning mentality could be pivotal to this, and he has now issued a rallying cry to his Arsenal teammates.
The Gunners will travel to face West Ham this weekend, and whilst the Hammers are winless in six, their last victory came at the Emirates in December, and Arsenal also lost on their last visit to the London Stadium in the Carabao Cup.
Jorginho calls for Arsenal focus in title race
Speaking to Arsenal club media, Jorginho praised his teammates for the victory over Liverpool, but claimed that there is still a long way to go in the title race.
“Everyone is happy but now is the moment to stay focused and push even more, to go with the good momentum and try to win another game,” Jorginho stated.
“It will be a really tough game. They play well there and it’s a hard place to go and win. They showed already that it’s really hard, we’ve been there, and now it’s the moment for us to change things around in our way.”
“I think we need to focus, as I always said, game by game. The Liverpool game is gone now and we need to focus on West Ham and the next one after that and the next one after that.
“If we want to stay in the race, we need to focus on each game and give everything we can in every single game.”
West Ham will be a tough opponent for Arsenal
Despite their recent struggles, West Ham are a team with tools capable of hurting Arsenal, who are winless in their last three games against David Moyes’ side.
A 2-2 draw at the London Stadium was a low point in Arsenal’s title collapse last season, as they were leading 2-0 early on and also saw Bukayo Saka miss a penalty with the score at 2-1.
The Carabao Cup tie saw Declan Rice return to face his old club for the first time since his club record move to Arsenal, but it was an unhappy one as his side were well beaten 3-1.
Arsenal will now hope to build upon their victory against Liverpool with another win on Sunday, but they cannot be complacent heading into what is a tough away game.
