Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal succumbed to yet another defeat in the Premier League, but this one just hurts more. Tottenham claimed the bragging rights in the derby for the second time in five months, and the game panned out exactly as Jose Mourinho would have dreamt it.

Arsenal dominated possession and attempted more than twice as many passes as Spurs in the whole game. We had 11 shots at goal compared to their six, but only two of ours was on target. Tottenham were accurate with three of theirs and scored twice, and that was that.

Yet again, it all came down to good chances in the final third. Arsenal barely had any, and our goalscoring problems continue. A record of 10 goals in 11 games is simply not good enough, and that has pushed us down to 15th in the table.

The pressure is mounting on Arteta’s shoulders. A tiny section of the fan base want him gone already, but Mourinho believes that the Spaniard will make Arsenal as good as we were in the past very soon.

Mourinho defends Arteta

He told Sky Sports: “I want to give words, congratulations to Mikel Arteta because he gave us a very difficult game. Tactically they were very good, very organised. They gave us problems, problems we were able to resolve.”

“They’ve good tactical courage and incredible spirit. They are a good team and he is a good coach. I can imagine tomorrow the headlines will be about them not being in a good position in the table, but I believe with these players and with Mikel, Arsenal will be Arsenal again.”

Arsenal are undoubtedly in a very difficult run in the Premier League at the moment. This is our worst start to a season in almost 40 years, and it almost feels like it will not change any time soon.

Arteta’s system at the moment is extremely predictable and it’s easy for teams to defend against us. The Arsenal boss is in no danger of a sack at the moment, but we all know how toxic the atmosphere can become if this run continues – just ask Unai Emery.

Mourinho, for once, could be right. We have a good team and highly-rated manager, but it’s just not clicking for us now. When it does, we can be just as good as we are at the end of last season, if not better. But, we look a long way off that point at this moment in time.
