Arsenal star Gabriel Jesus is on his way back from injury, and was an unused substitute in last week’s victory over Newcastle.

The Brazilian has returned from a problem which has kept him out since January, but with Arsenal strolling to a 4-1 victory at the Emirates, there was little need to risk him in the game.

Mikel Arteta has stated that the club will be cautious over his potential return, and given his strong record in the Champions League, Arsenal will want him fit and firing ahead of the second leg of their knockout tie with Porto.

After the Newcastle game, the substitutes participated in their standard drills on the pitch, and journalist Charles Watts has now revealed what he saw from Gabriel Jesus in these drills.

Charles Watts reveals what Gabriel Jesus did after Newcastle victory

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Watts revealed that in the mini-games after the Newcastle win, Jesus showed no signs of sluggishness after his injury, and was committing well physically.

“I watched the subs come out to the pitch after everyone had gone home at the Emirates, and watched the warm down game they always do after Arsenal matches. It’s a good 20-25 minutes short-sided game with full-sized goals and everything, but it’s really intense, they really go for it,” Watts explained.

“I watched Jesus during that 25 minutes, and he was flying into everything. He didn’t look like a player easing his way back into things. He looked absolutely on it, fit, healthy, he was flying around.

“There was no sign of an injured player or someone who was still struggling with an injury, or that he was trying to protect himself from injury.

“I think he’s definitely ready, he’s had another in training since then as well.”

Gabriel Jesus should not start for Arsenal vs Sheffield United

It is clear that Jesus is fit and ready to make an impact for Arsenal, but Arteta should still ease him back into the side.

Kai Havertz and Leandro Trossard have filled in well in his absence, and Arsenal should have enough quality to beat Sheffield United without the Brazilian starting.

Minutes off the bench should help Jesus ease back in, and the focus should be on preparing him to start against Porto in the Champions League. For now, Arsenal have enough quality to cope in their next two league games, and can aim to substitute him on in the final 30 minutes to avoid re-injury.
