Jude Bellingham in hysterics as Jamie Carragher snubs him for Arsenal ‘superstar’

Jamie Carragher recently had Jude Bellingham in hysterics with a claim he made about Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice.

Real Madrid superstar Jude Bellingham and Arsenal enforcer Declan Rice will know each other well. They have shared the pitch at international level on numerous occasions, and assuming that no injuries hold them back they are both practically guaranteed to start in the middle of the park for England at EURO 2024 this summer. 

Gareth Southgate will be delighted with the form that both players have produced so far this season. Rice has been a revelation since his arrival at Arsenal from West Ham United in the recent summer transfer window, rapidly establishing himself as a fan favourite at the Emirates Stadium.

The 24-year-old is a talismanic presence for the Gunners in midfield, as he able to both effectively protect the back four and break up opposition attacks, whilst providing a threat in the final third himself. Having been encouraged by Mikel Arteta to take up a more advanced role than he is used to, Rice has already chipped in with three vital goals for the north London club so far this season. 

Meanwhile, having made his own big summer move from Borussia Dortmund to Real Madrid, Bellingham has been lighting up La Liga. The 20-year-old has already racked up an astonishing 17 goals in 22 appearances, across all competitions, for the Spanish giants.

Both players are expected to have big futures for club and country. However, when tasked with choosing between them, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher couldn’t resist taking the opportunity to coax a laugh out of Bellingham.

Whilst selecting his Team of the Year on CBS Sports, in the company of Bellingham himself, the pundit made a big show of setting up his midfield pick. Carragher said, “this is the easiest choice I’ve had to make. I’m going to pick a young superstar from England, who has lit the Champions League alight this season. For me, it has to be only one man. I’m going to choose…Declan Rice!”

Thankfully, Bellingham appreciated the humour. However, it would be fair to say that Rice is certainly worthy of being seriously considered for selection in such a team in his own right.
