Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has publically voiced his surprise over Arsenal’s decision to loan out Albert Sambi Lokonga.

The Belgian international joined Luton Town for the season in the summer, with Lokonga since the turn of the year developing into one of the Hatters’ most important players in the midfield.

Reports in recent days have suggested that Premier League clubs could move to sign Lokonga in the summer, and Klopp has been taken aback by Arsenal’s choice to loan out the 24-year-old.

Speaking to the press via Hayters TV, the Liverpool manager revealed that he was shocked to learn that Lokonga was owned by Arsenal, who Mikel Arteta signed in 2021 for a reported £17m.

Despite some good performances, Lokonga’s development has stalled at Arsenal, with the midfielder joining Crystal Palace in January of last year before signing for Luton on loan in the summer.

And it’s at Kenilworth Road where Lokonga has really found his feet in the Premier League, with the midfielder impressing with every game at Luton and winning big praise in the process.

Klopp said about Lokonga: “Lokonga when you see him playing and you think, oh – He’s an Arsenal player and they loaned him? Interesting.”

Lokonga has the world at his feet after a breakout year in the Premier League at Luton with the midfielder expected to receive offers from clubs in the summer.

With Arsenal also expected to sell at least two midfielders, there’s a chance that Lokonga could be considered by Arteta as an option heading into next season.

Indeed, the 24-year-old has a massive decision to make at the end of this season, and for Lokonga, the midfielder has to make the choice that will benefit his career the most, which could mean leaving north London for good.
