Jurrien Timber has praised Viktor Gyokeres, despite his slow start to life at Arsenal.
Viktor Gyokeres is becoming something of a footballing marmite figure – even supporters within his own fanbase aren’t sure on him.
Sometimes, Gyokeres looks lost on the pitch, while, on other occasions, Gyokeres looks like he has plenty of untapped potential.
Speaking to Stadium Astro, Jurrien Timber has been discussing Gyokeres’ start to life at Arsenal, and the Dutchman actually had nothing but good things to say about his teammate.
Given his stats, how much do you think would’ve been a suitable price for Viktor Gyokeres?
Jurrien Timber calls Viktor Gyokeres ‘amazing’
The defender was asked about Gyokeres’ start to life at Arsenal.
Timber was very complimentary about the striker, claiming that he has been doing amazing, stating that he thinks he improves every single time he steps onto the pitch.
Timber claimed that Gyokeres has already had a ‘big impact’, even though there has been criticism from other quarters.
“Like I said, we as teammates, we’re always trying to help our teammates and it’s the same with Viktor. Obviously I think he has had a big impact already,” Timber said.
“A lot of new players. And I think it’s also just about us feeding him. giving him the opportunities to do what he does best and that’s scoring.
“So we’re just trying to put him in that position. I think the manager does that as well and I think he’s been doing amazing. He’s working so hard for the team and he’s improving every game already.”
Viktor Gyokeres’ Arsenal career in numbers
Timber has reserved some big praise for Gyokeres here, but, sadly, it is difficult to agree with his take.
We are over halfway through the season, sum up Viktor Gyokeres’ transfer in one sentence.
Gyokeres’ numbers are far from what you would call ‘amazing’ at this point in his Arsenal career, particularly for a player who scored almost 100 goals at Sporting in two seasons.
| Viktor Gyokeres’ Arsenal career in numbers | |
| Premier League games | 19 |
| Premier League goals | 5 |
| Premier League assists | 0 |
| Open play Premier League goals | 3 |
Whether you like it or not, Gyokeres was signed by Arsenal to score goals, and, at the moment, he isn’t doing it – or at least not consistently enough.
Timber still has faith in Arsenal’s summer signing, but from the outside looking in, it’s hard to call Gyokeres’ time at Arsenal so far a rousing success.
