Jurrien Timber reveals his ‘favourite’ thing about training under Mikel Arteta at Arsenal

Jurrien Timber has now settled into life at Arsenal.

Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber will be keen to make up for lost time this season. 

Having joined the North London club last summer, the Dutchman’s maiden campaign with Arsenal did not go according to plan.

The defender picked up an ACL injury in the first Premier League game of the season which decimated his campaign. He did not return to first team action until the final match of the season.

However, the 23-year-old is now fit once more and back in action for club and country. Timber recently made history at international level, as he and his brother Quinten Timber represented the Netherlands together. 

Mikel Arteta will be delighted to have Timber back, and has handed the former Ajax man starts in each of the Gunners’ last two Premier League fixtures. 

The player himself is also pleased to be back in action, and is enjoying life at Arsenal under the Spanish coach.

Jurrien Timber reveals Arsenal training love

Timber has now opened up about his favourite aspect of training.

Speaking to the club’s official website, the 16-cap Netherlands international said: “The way they approach the game at Arsenal is quite similar to the way they did at Ajax when I used to play there, so not that different. 

“My favourite training drills when I was younger are just the same as they are now – just games, five against five. Then and now. I like to win, so I love those games!”

Arteta will be keen to foster this competitive spirit, and it is an aspect of Timber’s character that will stand him in good stead for the battle he is set to be engaged in this season.

The challenge facing Timber at Arsenal

Timber’s game time so far this season has come at left-back, where summer signing Riccardo Calafiori, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Jakub Kiwior, and Takehiro Tomiyasu are all also vying for minutes.

Timber will embrace this competition and will back himself to make the starting berth in that part of the pitch his own.

Gary Neville has named Timber as the player he is most excited to see in action this season, and the Manchester United icon expects him to have a big impact for the Gunners.

Certainly, if he can stay fit and in the team, then he has the capacity to bring a fresh dimension to Arteta’s side with his technical ability, defensive solidity, and attacking intent.
