Jurrien Timber’s debut season at Arsenal was a very difficult one.

The Dutchman joined the Gunners from Ajax in the summer of 2023, and he instantly won over the fans with his performances in pre-season.

Everyone expected Timber to have a big impact at the Emirates in the 2023/24 campaign, but the defender suffered a very serious knee injury on his Premier League debut.

That ruled him out for several months and he made just one more appearance in the remainder of the season – on the final day against Everton.

Jurrien Timber shares what happened in his first training session after injury recovery

ACL injuries are absolutely terrible.

We’ve seen how much of an impact it can have even post-recovery, and several players have struggled to get back to their peak level.

That was always a concern with Timber after he hurt his knee on the opening day of the 2023/24 season, but Arsenal have been really careful with his recovery.

Timber was given all the time he needed to completely get over his injury, and the former Ajax man has now revealed that he threw himself into tackles ‘without any fear’ in his first session back.

We’re sure Arsenal’s doctors would’ve been slightly worried at that sight, but Timber was adamant that was the only way he could return to his best.

He told De Telegraaf: “Sometimes it still feels a bit stiff after a match or training, but in my head, it doesn’t play a role at all anymore.

“When I went out (to training) for the first time, I immediately threw tackles again. Without any fear. You can’t just participate halfway, because then things go wrong.”

Timber could have four different roles to play in Arsenal’s title charge

One of the biggest reasons why Arsenal signed Timber is because of his versatility.

The Dutchman played in both full-back positions in his first pre-season at the club and was excellent. He was deployed in the heart of the defence before the start of this campaign, and he looked solid there as well.

Timber can also play as a defensive midfielder, and he is a real option to replace Declan Rice in that position in the North London Derby against Tottenham.

Arteta needs Timber to be ready to play in any position throughout this season. We are convinced he has what it takes to deliver the goods to help Arsenal in their bid to win the Premier League title.
