Jurrien Timber has opened up about the injury that caused his season to be cut marginally short.

It’s difficult to imagine Arsenal’s back four without Timber, which is credit to the Dutchman, who has only had one whole season to impress.

The defender’s highly anticipated Premier League debut at the start of the 2023/24 campaign ended in disaster, as the 24-year-old sustained an ACL injury, ending his first year before it truly started.

Fortunately, the Netherlands international re-emerged ready and raring to go, but injury could not be avoided as Timber underwent surgery on his ankle just before the 2024/25 calendar concluded.

Jurrien Timber shares concerning feedback on Arsenal injury

There’s optimism that Timber will return for pre-season, which is a boost for the Gunners, who will be desperate to have the Dutchman available from the off.

The versatile right-back was utterly superb throughout the 2024/25 campaign, playing a decisive role in both the Premier League and the Champions League.

Against even the toughest of opponents in world football, Arsenal’s number 12 came out on top, as notably, Timber shut down Vinicius Junior in the Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid.

Later in the competition, the former Ajax star gave Paris Saint-Germain similar treatment, which is rather extraordinary, as his latest confession has revealed.

Speaking on an episode of Matchday, posted by SUPERGAANDE on YouTube, Timber spoke about the trouble he had playing towards the end of the season due to the injury he was carrying.

“It got worse and worse. I had an Oranje scan, and the conclusion was that I had to undergo surgery at the end of the season,” he explained.

“I wanted to play at Arsenal, but it was hard. Sometimes the pain is much worse. I’ve been through how that feels now.”

Timber went on to express the challenges that went on behind the scenes ahead of the Champions League semi-final second leg against PSG.

“I only trained one day before the match. I thought I have no idea how to finish this, because I couldn’t even run.

“But in the second half, I got adrenaline again, and in the eightieth minute, it was time to get out. I didn’t train all those weeks and was stressing for that second semifinal.”

What the Dutch defender admitted next does not paint a good look for Mikel Arteta, suggesting that the Arsenal manager turned a blind eye to the pain he was in.

“It hurt so much. The manager thinks: ‘Jur has had a scan, it can’t get worse, make sure you’re ready’, but he doesn’t see how much pain I’m in.”

Timber’s struggles are not a good look for Mikel Arteta

The right-back’s admission exposed the brutal reality of the struggles footballers face when it comes to injury.

For Timber, the option wasn’t there to sit the fixture out, which is quite an ominous situation with regard to Arteta’s view on his player’s discomfort.

Protecting players is the most important thing in football, and in this case, it could be said that the Arsenal manager wasn’t attentive enough to his defender’s needs.

The injury ended in surgery for Timber, which it would’ve regardless of his involvement against PSG, but it only emphasises the amount of pain the Dutchman was playing through.
