Kelechi Nwakali's progress on loan at MVV Maastricht gives us hope on a dark day

Kelechi Nwakali started at the Diamond Football academy where he was spotted by the Arsenal scouts and signed for the club in 2016.
The attacking midfielder was loaned out to Dutch club MVV Maastricht in the Eerste Divisie this season to gain some valuable playing time.
The Nigerian has impressed so far making 19 appearances and scoring one goal and assisting in two. His single goal was extremely well taken. Maastricht broke away and Nwakali received the ball on the edge of the area. With some neat dribbling skills he made himself space and slotted the ball home.
Arsenal have very high hopes for the youngster, who had already picked up the tag of wonder kid.
His performances in the under 17s World Cup was excellent. He is a player who is very comfortable on the ball, with a fantastic range of passing ability. His eye for a pass is very impressive and he was able to set up his team mates on numerous occasions.
For Nigeria, he plays majority of the time in central midfield, always demanding the ball and has the confidence to receive the ball deep in his own half to be able to start attacks. He captained the Under 17s and is also happy to take penalties and is able to score from free kicks.
What really impressed me with the 18 year old, was his vision on the pitch. He is able to spot team mates runs or team mates in space.
If there was any criticism of Nwakali, it’s that he is slightly light weight. But he is only 18 years old. You feel he may have to slightly bulk up for the Premier League.
But he is certainly a player all Arsenal supporters can get excited about. Having beaten the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea to his signature, the Nigerian was in high demand, and the five year contract shows that Arsenal rate the player very highly.
It will be interesting to see what the club will do with Nwakali next season. Whether it will be another season long loan or perhaps a few first team appearances in the League Cup remains to be seen.
This is one player that I can not wait to see how he progresses over the next season or two. An exciting young talent who really does have the world at his feet.
Wonder kid maybe slightly premature but if he continues to progress as he is, then Nwakali could be an amazing talented footballer in the Arsenal first team for years to come.
