Arsenal frustrated their fans yet again with their passive performance against title rivals Liverpool.

Mikel Arteta’s side were defensively solid but their hard work was undone by a moment of magic from Dominik Szoboszlai.

Arteta slammed Arsenal’s poor decision-making in attack, yet the Gunners boss chose not to start the game with any of his four creative talents in the matchday squad.

Despite Arsenal’s struggles in attack, former Premier League midfielder Kevin Nolan has highlighted the performances of two players that stood out in the defeat to Liverpool.

Kevin Nolan was ‘impressed’ by Martin Odegaard and Eberechi Eze in Arsenal’s defeat to Liverpool

Speaking on the latest episode of talkSPORT’s ‘Premier League All Access’ podcast, Nolan has stated that he was ‘impressed’ with substitutes Martin Odegaard and Eberechi Eze during Arsenal’s defeat to Liverpool.

Wayne Rooney can’t understand why Eze didn’t start for Arsenal but his cameo from the bench has given great encouragement moving forward with the season.

Nolan stated: “But what I will say is that I was impressed when Eze come on, when Odegaard came on for Arsenal.

“I thought that there was something there and it’s going to be interesting now, but what a moment. And yeah, let’s see where that takes us from there.”

The Gunners enjoyed their best spell of the match when the duo came on to the pitch and Eze was unlucky not to equalise as he made a break into Liverpool’s box before stumbling as he tried to shoot.

It does however leave Arsenal fans wondering what might have been had the duo been given the opportunity from the start of the match.

Eberechi Eze and Martin Odegaard can work in tandem for Arsenal

When Eze signed for Arsenal, many believed he was coming into the club to provide competition for the club captain.

However, the final twenty minutes against Liverpool has shown Arteta that both players can be effective playing with each other as part of Arsenal’s attack.

Eze drifted inside and linked up well with Odegaard and the hope is that will continue to thrive in order to provide Viktor Gyokeres more service than he is currently receiving.

Riccardo Calafiori has arguably been Arsenal’s best player so far this campaign and will enjoy Eze coming inside so he can make some marauding runs on the outside of him.
