With his goal against West Ham United on Sunday, Leandro Trossard made Arsenal history.
Leandro Trossard scored the fourth goal of the game yesterday, as Arsenal ran rampant at the London Stadium.
West Ham United were utterly hapless, as Mikel Arteta’s ruthless and free-flowing side recoded a 6-0 win in east London. This result actually marked Arsenal’s biggest ever away win in Premier League history.
That was not the only history that was made on the day either. In the process of netting his brace against the Hammers, Bukayo Saka became the first Arsenal player to reach one particular personal milestone at his age since 1978.
On top of that, when Trossard produced some neat footwork in the box on the stroke of half-time, before arcing the ball into the top corner, he scored Arsenal’s 8,000th league goal in the club’s entire history. Paul Merson bagged the 6,000th, Andrey Arshavin registered the 7,000th, and now Trossard has joined that list and etched his name into Arsenal history.
The Belgian attacker deserves this place in the Gunners’ history. He is not a nailed-on starter in Arteta’s side by any means, but he has so often shone when called upon, and he was in scintillating form against West Ham, as he popped up in spaces all over the pitch to ensure that the home side’s defence could never settle into a system of coping with him.

Arsenal send out clear message with 6-0 West Ham win
The 29-year-old gave a reminder of his quality, and his presence in this squad is testament to the strength in depth that Arsenal now have thanks to the work of Arteta and sporting director Edu in recent transfer windows.
Of course, this 8,000th goal figure was not the most important stat of the day, though. The 6-0 scoreline is certainly the figure that Arteta will care about the most, as it sends out a clear message. It makes it plain that Arsenal mean business and are here to stay in the title race.
Having beaten league leaders Liverpool last time out, it was vital that the Gunners backed that victory up with another positive result, to show that they can be consistent, and aren’t just the kind of side that can only really get themselves up for the big occasion. This win against West Ham was straight-forward, professional, and utterly clinical, and therefore testament to the fact that Arsenal are taking every match extremely seriously in this stage of the campaign.
