‘Look at Chelsea now’: Ray Parlour says whether Arsenal should sack Mikel Arteta or not

It seems quite unbelievable that just weeks ago we were looking at a potential Arsenal quadruple but now we’re on the verge of suggesting Mikel Arteta is under pressure in his job.

Arteta has looked on in horror at his Arsenal team once again blowing a big lead at the top of the Premier League, while Man City do what they do best and capitalise.

Now, with the league title in City’s hands and a tough Champions League semi-final to come, there is a chance that Arsenal end the season trophyless.

But according to former Gunner Ray Parlour, that doesn’t mean Mikel Arteta should lose his job.

Ray Parlour says Arsenal should give Mikel Arteta one more season

There is absolutely no doubt that some will want Arteta to go if Arsenal end up without a trophy.

After all, that is the nature of the beast and Arteta has spent a fortune.

“I always look at the other clubs like Manchester United and, you know, Chelsea. Look at Chelsea now and they’re Tottenham even managers come and go,” Parlour said on TalkSPORT.

“And I think Arteta, don’t get me wrong, it’d be a disastrous season, but I think they give him one more opportunity. I think he will get next season as well and go from there because you’ve always got to look around.

“Who’s going to take his place and it can be a rollercoaster situation if you if you bring another manager doesn’t work he get he won’t get too long he get he gets sacked and then someone else comes in and it doesn’t work.”

Mikel Arteta has to deliver or he faces serious questions

Arteta has spent a lot of money but he does have a good relationship with the Kroenke’s and that, in reality, is likely to buy him a bit of time.

However, that doesn’t mean that the Arsenal owners and board won’t be asking questions. If Arsenal do lose the league title, there will need to be a serious debrief about what went wrong yet again and why this continues to be an issue for Arteta’s Arsenal teams.

The board will want answers from Arteta and if they do give him another season, they’ll be demanding to know what is going to change and how.

It can’t be that the Gunners simply keep chucking money at it and hope it sticks. Other clubs have done that and ended up nowhere.

Arteta is a man under pressure. It’s as simple as that. For now, he is safe. But if the season end comes and it is zero trophies, then he’ll need some big answers and quickly.
