Man Utd legend says one ‘unreal’ Arsenal star reminds him of himself

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has now heaped praise on Arsenal centre-back William Saliba.

Although he was on the losing side on Saturday, Arsenal defender William Saliba has drawn positive reviews for his performance against Newcastle United at St James’ Park. 

This is far from the first time that the 22-year-old Frenchman has impressed since making his debut for the Gunners at the start of last season. He quickly established himself as a key figure in Mikel Arteta’s squad back then and has gone from strength to strength since. 

Saliba is a fan-favourite at Arsenal. He is the heartbeat of the Gunners’ rearguard, and plays with a great deal of maturity, far beyond his years.

Rio Ferdinand has been blown away by Saliba. Discussing the ten-cap France international’s performance against the Magpies on his FIVE YouTube channel, the former centre-back said, “he was unreal…He played well, he done a bit of skill as well and I thought… ‘that reminds me [of me]’! It was nice.”

Arsenal need to keep up with William Saliba

In his day, Ferdinand was a top class centre-back, so Saliba will take the comparison as a compliment.

Arteta certainly seems to have a potential future superstar on his hands. Though, it took a lot of work for the former Saint-Etienne man to get to this point.

Former Arsenal ace Pablo Mari recently discussed the one moment where he saw a huge change in Saliba, that then allowed him to push on and become the player he is now. 

The north London club will be keen to keep Saliba on their books for as long as possible. Thankfully, he recently signed a new long-term contract at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal need to keep up with Saliba, though. This player is going to the very top of the game. Arteta needs to ensure that the club are in a strong enough position to offer Saliba a chance of winning major honours whilst wearing red and white.
