Man Utd owner admits he would like to see Arsenal win the Premier League for one reason

New Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has now claimed that he would like to see Mikel Arteta win the Premier League with Arsenal this season.

Arsenal are currently top of the Premier League in what is a tight three-way title race with Liverpool and Manchester City, and the race could even go to the wire.

All three clubs are bitter rivals with Manchester United, and yet again the Red Devils find themselves watching their local, historical and sporting rivals win silverware.

Ratcliffe has now admitted that whilst this situation is far from ideal for United, he would like to see Mikel Arteta win the league as a reward for his efforts.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants Mikel Arteta to win the Premier League

Speaking in an interview with Geraint Thomas Cycling Club, Ratcliffe praised Arteta for turning Arsenal into contenders, and admitted that he deserved the title as a result.

“I hate them all … they’re all the enemy,” he stated of the three teams.

“It would be good for Arteta actually. “It would be good for him because he’s done really well and Arsenal have been patient with him, which is nice as well,”

Ratcliffe recently purchased a minority stake in Man United, and has not had the chance to oversee changes there which could bring them closer to Arsenal or Liverpool in the table.

Despite Arsene Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson enjoying what was the greatest Premier League rivalry in history during the early 2000s, right now, Arsenal are the best possible option for Man United when it comes to picking a title winner.

Should Liverpool win the league, they will match United on 20 titles each, whilst they are United’s most hated team in terms of local rivalry.

Man City would become the first team in history to win four Premier League titles in a row if they win again, and as United’s local rivals, this would also be far from ideal viewing.

Arsenal have not won the league since 2004, and winning it this season would be historic. However, this is still preferable for those connected with Man United than either of the other options, and rivals can all enjoy the disastrous situation United find themselves in for the season.
