Martin Odegaard will be hoping to lead his Arsenal team to some form of glory this season and today sees FA Cup action against Wigan.
Odegaard is the current captain and would love nothing more than to lead the Gunners to success and trophies.
The Norwegian midfielder hasn’t been at his best recently and in recent seasons, he’s been part of the Arsenal squad who have failed to get past the fourth round in the famous old competition.
Who do you think will be the bigger Arsenal star in 10 years – Ethan or Emerson Nwaneri?
However, with Wigan standing in their way today, a golden chance awaits for Arsenal to progress and according to Odegaard, it’s very much a priority.
Martin Odegaard says why Arsenal want to win the FA Cup
Mikel Arteta had his first and only taste of big success with Arsenal when he won the FA Cup in his first season in charge.
Since then, though, the record has been poor.
Now, captain Odegaard has admitted he and his teammates want to win the trophy.

Writing in the Arsenal programme in his captain’s comments section, Odegaard spoke of the importance of the FA Cup to the Arsenal squad.
Indeed, for Odegaard, it’s all about putting things right after the last few seasons of failure.
“This group of players hasn’t had a run in this competition & it’s definitely something we want to do. We know we can do better in this competition,” Odegaard said.
“In recent years, we’ve gone out quite early, so that’s something we want to make better. It’s another competition we want to go all the way in.
“We are top of the league, we finished top of the league in the Champions League format, we’re into the Carabao Cup final, so this is the next one & it’s another big one for us.”
Arsenal’s FA Cup record under Mikel Arteta
In fairness to Arsenal, the last three times they’ve gone out early in the competition has been at the hands of Man City, Man United and then Liverpool.
Prior to that, the Gunners lost 1-0 to Nottingham Forest and then 1-0 to Southampton the year before. Those five cup exits have all followed the win against Chelsea in the final back in 2020.
Sevilla have just mocked Arsenal on social media. How will you respond, Gooners?
All in all, Arteta has managed 14 FA Cup games as manager, winning nine and losing 5.
Surely, though, Arteta makes it 10 wins against Wigan today.
Anything but an easy win will be a disaster, especially with so much to play for elsewhere.
