Martin Zubimendi has joined Arsenal when they are on the cusp of winning major trophies.
The Spain international had been on Mikel Arteta’s radar for over two years, but it was only in 2025 that he agreed to join the Gunners.
Zubimendi has been excellent in the famous red and white over the last two months, and many feel he could help Arsenal win the Premier League title in May.
But what happened last season? Zubimendi has shared what his teammates told him.
What Arsenal players told Martin Zubimendi about the 2024/25 season
Arsenal’s 2024/25 season was painful for so many reasons.
The Gunners had the perfect opportunity to win the Premier League title after Manchester City fell off, but Arteta’s men had their own problems.
Arsenal had so many injuries to key players last season. The likes of Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Kai Havertz, Gabriel Magalhaes, Riccardo Calafiori and Gabriel Jesus all spent spells on the sidelines.
The North Londoners didn’t have enough depth in their squad to cope with those injuries, which is why they fell short in the Premier League and Champions League.
That is exactly what Arsenal players have told Martin Zubimendi, and the Spaniard now believes his side have enough depth to get past that final hurdle.
He told the Guardian: “From what teammates have said to me, the problem was the injuries, that when someone got injured, the team came undone.
“This year, the club has invested a lot in having two players in every position.”

Arsenal’s squad depth has already made a serious difference
Injuries weren’t just an issue for Arsenal last season; they have been hit this time as well.
Havertz, Odegaard, Saka, and William Saliba have all missed games due to one problem or another this term.
In previous campaigns, Arsenal would’ve collapsed without the above names, but Arteta’s men have just carried on as if nothing has happened.
That’s thanks to the signings of Viktor Gyokeres, Eberechi Eze, Noni Madueke and Cristhian Mosquera, who have played and helped push Arsenal to the top of the Premier League table.
