Mesut Ozil has joined the chorus of former Arsenal players celebrating the club’s Premier League title win.
The German playmaker, who spent over seven years at the Emirates between 2013 and 2021, quoted Arsenal’s champions post on social media with a simple but heartfelt message: “Congratulations, Champions” accompanied by a trophy emoji.
It is a classy gesture from a player whose time at Arsenal ended on difficult terms, having been frozen out of the squad by Mikel Arteta entirely in his final season before leaving for Fenerbahce in January 2021.
The circumstances of his exit were messy and well-documented, making his warm response to the title win all the more notable.
He joins a growing list of former players to have congratulated the club, including Granit Xhaka and Oleksandr Zinchenko.
Ozil, now retired, played 254 games for the Gunners, scoring 44 goals and yielding 77 assists. He left having won four FA Cups with the north London club.
