The Premier League title race took a turn in Arsenal’s favour on matchday 24, leaving the Gunners with a six-point lead with 14 games to go.
There are still a lot of minutes to be played, but right now, it’s impossible not to acknowledge that things look very good for Arsenal.
Mikel Arteta’s side returned to winning ways after three Premier League fixtures without three points, beating Leeds United in style at Elland Road.
The only thing that could’ve made Arsenal’s weekend better was Manchester City dropping points at Tottenham, which is exactly what happened.
Declan Rice wasn’t overly interested in watching Man City vs Spurs, but he and his teammates might’ve tuned in at half-time.
Micah Richards has changed his mind about Arsenal
Arsenal fans were in awe of Dominic Solanke, as he scored a terrific brace against City, which would have delighted his Arsenal-supporting family.
Arsenal fans, you bump into Dominic Solanke tonight…what are YOU saying to him?
It was a moment to savour for the red side of North London, but not for the blue side of Manchester.
Having ties to both Arsenal and Man City, it was a conflicting weekend for Micah Richards, whose view on the Gunners changed between Saturday and Sunday.
Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast before Man City played Tottenham, Richards shared his opinion that the title will likely be decided at the Etihad in April.
“I keep saying, it’s going to come to that game in April. Arsenal have got to go to Man City, and if Arsenal beat Man City there, then that’s when it’s over.”
Less than 24 hours later, the pundit’s timeline changed dramatically, bringing Arsenal’s title-winning match forward to matchday 25…this week.
Arsenal face Sunderland and Man City face Liverpool at Anfield on week 25, two fixtures that, after City’s draw at Spurs, could be huge for the Gunners in Richards’ eyes.
“Sunderland are a very good side, performed very well this season. But if Man City were to draw and Arsenal were to win, that’s when I’ll concede that the title race is over.”
If Arsenal were to beat Sunderland and Man City were to lose to Liverpool, the Gunners would go nine points clear with 13 games to play.
Arsenal’s chances of winning the Premier League title have rocketed
Regardless of games to come and what rivals are doing, Arsenal’s chances are looking very good.
Agree or disagree, if Arsenal do not win the league it would be the greatest failure in the club’s history
Opta’s supercomputer gives Arsenal a 91.4% chance of winning the league, which echoes what Gary Lineker said in response to Richards’ take on the title race.
“It’s really, really hard to see beyond Arsenal,” Lineker said on The Rest Is Football after matchday 24’s action.
For Arteta’s squad, the task is clear: keep winning and keep morale high.
