Arsenal have reached the point where only elite signings should be on their radar.
The Gunners are Premier League champions, Champions League finalists and one of the strongest teams in Europe.
Squad players and project signings still have their place, but if Andrea Berta wants to take Mikel Arteta’s side to another level, he needs to target footballers who can immediately improve the starting lineup.
Micah Richards believes there is one player in particular who would send a message to the rest of Europe – Julian Alvarez.
Imagine you are Andrea Berta. Who is your top target for Arsenal in the summer transfer window?
Micah Richards says Arsenal should sign Julian Alvarez this summer
Arsenal’s attack has improved significantly over the last few years.
The additions of players like Viktor Gyokeres and Eberechi Eze have given Arteta more firepower, while Bukayo Saka remains one of the best attackers in world football.
However, there is still a feeling that Arsenal could add one more truly elite forward. The Champions League final defeat to PSG highlighted that.
When you compare Arsenal’s frontline to some of the very best teams in Europe, there is arguably still another level to reach. That is exactly how Richards sees it.
The former Manchester City defender believes Arsenal should be targeting Atletico Madrid star Julian Alvarez.

Speaking to The Metro, he said: “I don’t think they need a superstar signing for the sake of it. They have got to fit into what Mikel Arteta wants.
“If they could get one of those signings over the line that would be a real statement of intent. They can’t rest on their laurels, they need to go again.
“They should be looking at Alvarez at Atletico Madrid!
“Yes, Gyokeres has done well in spells, Havertz has scored important goals. But you need to go to the next level.
“When you look at what PSG have in terms of their forward line, look at what Man City have, Arsenal need to get to that next level and get whoever they want.”
What is the highest fee you would pay to sign Julian Alvarez for Arsenal?
Is he worth more than Declan Rice?👀
Julian Alvarez would transform Arsenal’s attack
There are very few forwards in world football who would unquestionably improve Arsenal’s strongest team.
Alvarez is one of them.
The Argentine can play as a striker, as a second forward or even in a deeper attacking role, which makes him a dream fit for Arteta’s system.
More importantly, he has already proven he can deliver in the biggest moments. World Cup winner, Champions League winner, Premier League winner – Alvarez has done it all.
Signing him would not just strengthen Arsenal’s attack. It would send a message to Liverpool, Manchester City, PSG and every other elite club that the Gunners are determined to stay at the very top.
That is why Richards is right. If Berta can somehow bring Alvarez to north London, it would be one of the statement signings of the summer.
