Arsenal stars Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi have formed one of the best midfield partnerships in the world.
The Englishman has been incredible for the Gunners since he joined the club in 2023, but his partner in midfield has been fabulous too despite signing for the club just this summer.
Rice and Zubimendi are among the biggest reasons why Arsenal are on top of the table in the Premier League and the Champions League.
They are both sensational, but one former Arsenal midfielder thinks he can start in the current side ahead of them – Alex Song.

Alex Song says he would start in Arsenal’s midfield
Song joined Arsenal from Bastia in 2005 and spent seven years at the club.
The Cameroon international played 204 games for the Gunners in all competitions in that period and had established himself as a regular under Arsene Wenger.
Song produced a number of brilliant performances for Arsenal. He initially started in a box-to-box role before cementing a place in the side as a number six.
Then, in 2012, Song left Arsenal and joined Barcelona in a deal worth £15 million (BBC). He was only ever going to be a backup at the Camp Nou, but he still made the move.
Alex Song on the real reason why he left Arsenal for Barcelona
Song was never the same after leaving the Gunners, but his confidence was always high. That hasn’t changed to this day, even though it has been over two years since he retired.
In a video on ESPN Africa’s Instagram account, Song was presented with the names of several big clubs and was asked if he would start for them in his prime.
When the interviewer mentioned Arsenal, who have Martin Zubimendi and Declan Rice in the middle of the park, Song didn’t flinch and said: “Yes, Gunners for life! Yes.”
The former Barca star was an excellent player, but he was nowhere near the level of either Rice or Zubimendi. His confidence is admirable, but he is so wrong.

Arsenal fans will love what Alex Song said about Tottenham
Song couldn’t be more wrong when he said that he would get into this current Arsenal side – he probably wouldn’t even make the bench.
However, we think Gunners supporters will let his comment slide after hearing what he had to say about Tottenham Hotspur.
In the same interview, when asked if he would get into Spurs’ midfield, Song quickly shut the question down.
He said: “No. I will never play for Tottenham. Never! It will never happen!”
