Mikel Arteta drops biggest hint yet that officials got Myles Lewis-Skelly red card wrong in Arsenal’s win over Wolves

Arsenal came through the most challenging of tests to breed new life into their Premier League title hopes.

Arsenal were in control of the game and should have been ahead with Kai Havertz missing a couple of headed opportunities.

Michael Oliver sent off Myles Lewis-Skelly just before half time in a controversial that decision that many believe should have been a yellow card.

Mikel Arteta’s side defended well before the game took another twist as Joao Gomes was sent off for two bookable offences following a foul on Jurrien Timber.

Riccardo Calafiori struck a vital winner late on for the Gunners with a brilliant finish, to hand Arsenal three points that they thoroughly deserved.

After the game, Arteta was asked about the controversial incident involving Lewis-Skelly and his response was telling about what he felt about the decision.

Mikel Arteta hopes Arsenal will not have to appeal Lewis-Skelly red card

Speaking at his post-match press conference following Arsenal’s victory over Wolves, Arteta was asked about the red card incident involving Lewis-Skelly and whether Arsenal would appeal the decision.

Arteta stated: “I think it’s that obvious that we don’t need any comments today. Hopefully the right thing will happen after today. Hopefully we don’t need to.”

Jamie O’Hara described the decision as ‘one of the worst he’s seen’ with many bemoaning the inconsistency of referee Michael Oliver.

There have been many similar incidents this season of players from other clubs making the challenge that Lewis-Skelly did and only receiving a yellow card.

Arsenal victory vital in Premier League title race

Despite the red card, Arsenal showed incredible character and resilience to secure a vital three points in their quest for the Premier League title.

Liverpool secured a comfortable 4-1 win over Ipswich Town therefore, had the Gunners dropped yet more points, it would have left them with a mountain to climb to catch the Merseyside club.

The back four and goalkeeper were particularly impressive in the win, Gabriel Magalhaes was captain for the game and showed superb leadership and maturity in the win.

Declan Rice also impressed once again with his drive and energy from midfield and Arsenal will now be hoping that the result can be a springboard to go on and capture some silverware.
