Mikel Arteta gives Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard injury update

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has some fresh injury concerns to deal with after the North London Derby victory over Tottenham.

The Gunners were working with a heavily reduced squad as fitness and suspension worries impacted the players available to the Spaniard.

While the red half of north London took the win, there are some new worries over Bukayo Saka as he came off early in the clash on Sunday.

Discussing the winger with the press after the game, Arteta said: “I don’t know. I made two changes with the front players and suddenly he’s down. I don’t know exactly what it is but he could not continue.”

Martin Odegaard was also missing after picking up an ankle issue during the international break, coming as a huge blow.

“Martin we still have to wait and see. He wasn’t available today,” the Arsenal boss said after the game.

Paul Merson and Jamie Redknapp to Jurrien Timber red card decision

Jurrien Timber was the centre of attention in the North London Derby after the Arsenal defender got caught in some controversy.

The Dutchman appeared to catch Pedro Porro in a 50-50 challenge, which resulted in a yellow card after a brawl on the pitch.

While VAR checked the decision, it stuck with the referee’s choice rather than overturning it for a red card.

That wasn’t a move that Jamie Redknapp agreed with as he said on Sky Sports: “Timber is incredibly lucky. Other referees would have sent him off. It’s excessive force he has gone in with, it’s an unnatural action.”

Paul Merson agreed, adding: “He’s fortunate, especially away from home, especially with the way the referee is handing out yellow cards like ice cream!”

Raheem Sterling makes Arsenal debut

After making the transfer deadline day switch from Chelsea on loan, Raheem Sterling finally made his debut for Arsenal over the weekend.

The winger came into the fray during the North London Derby, helping add new energy to the pitch as his new side saw out a 1-0 victory.

It marked the first Arsenal debut in the North London Derby since 1997 – when Isaiah Rankin made his debut for the club in a 1-1 draw at White Hart Lane.

The Gunners will now be hopeful that Sterling can start to build up some fitness in time to make a big impact for the rest of the season.
