Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has given a glowing review of midfielder Jorginho after his outstanding display against Liverpool.
The Italian international stepped into the starting line-up alongside Declan Rice, with hopes of controlling the match against their title rivals. The former Chelsea man did just that, dictating the tempo and giving the side a base in possession.
The Gunners went on to win the match 3-1, with goals from Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard sealing all three points. It leaves the north London outfit just two points behind Liverpool in a tight race for the Premier League title.
While there were some big goals scored by the forwards, it was Jorginho that was handed the Player of the Match award by Gary Neville on Sky Sports. The ex-Manchester United defender was full of praise for the midfielder, who was also receiving plenty of plaudits from his manager too.

Mikel Arteta praises Jorginho
Speaking to the official Arsenal website after the match, Mikel Arteta was full of praise for Jorginho, even revealing that the midfielder had been playing through some pain. He told the press: “Unbelievable. I’ve always said that he’s [Jorginho is] an example, a role model.
“He’s been in a lot of pain as well, because he has an issue that he’s been carrying for months. He didn’t want to stop, he’s been playing with that, he’s been training as the first one in and the last one out, and for all the kids, for everybody at the club, you want to look in the mirror at somebody, just look at him and how he behaves.
“He’s won everything, and if you ask him not to play, or to play one minute like last week, he’s happy to go there. You ask him to play 98 minutes at the rhythm and he’s able to do that, so I’m really lucky to have players like this.”

Jorginho contract
The question for Arsenal will now pivot as to the future of Jorginho, given the fact that the 32-year-old only has a few months remaining on his contract at the Emirates Stadium. It remains to be seen whether he will be offered a new deal or if pastures new await him after this season.
