Mikel Arteta “world class” claim

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has claimed that midfielder Jorginho is world class following his side’s victory over Newcastle. The Italian international impressed in the clash, earning the man of the match award afterwards.

Arteta said on the midfielder, via the club’s official website: “He’s a top player, especially when the opponents have certain behaviours or certain set-up. The way I can imagine the game, he is going to have a big impact, but I think you have to do it at this level and when he’s not playing consistently, credit to him because he was magnificent today, again.”

When asked if Jorginho should be classed as “world class”, he responded: “He is certainly.”

Declan Rice praises Arsenal star

Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice has heaped praise on star defender Gabriel Magalhaes following victory over Newcastle. The Brazilian international was rock solid at the back, while providing his usual threat from set-pieces.

Discussing his teammate, Rice told TNTSports: “I think Saliba is unbelievable, obviously heard about all the talk of him before I come here and the one who’s really surprised me is actually Gabriel [Magalhaes]. He’s so aggressive, so strong, really wants it all the time, never loses a duel.”

Arsenal stat smashes Man City challenge

Arsenal have continued to impress in recent weeks as they find their goalscoring rhythm once again. However, it’s their defensive work that continues to underpin those performances as shown once again by the statistics.

Journalist James Benge revealed that the Gunners have only allowed 1.88 xG (Expected Goals) against them in six matches in 2024. Compare that to title rivals Manchester City, who hold the second best record, with 6.77 xG in their seven matches this year.

It shows Arsenal continue to lead the way from the back, with their title charge now well and truly on.
