Arsenal’s title hopes potentially hinge on claiming a positive result against Liverpool tomorrow, but there is still one issue in the side.

Although Arsenal have been excellent defensively and dominant in possession this season, they have not been clinical enough at times, and have often failed to take their chances.

Tuesday’s victory over Nottingham Forest saw them perform well, but still struggle in front of goal before Gabriel Jesus found the opener, and they secured a vital win after last month’s blip saw them drop crucial points.

Mikel Arteta has now admitted that his side need to improve inside the opposition box, and has revealed what he has told his attackers as he aims to help them develop a clinical edge.

Mikel Arteta bemoans Arsenal missed chances

Speaking via The Guardian ahead of Arsenal’s clash with Liverpool, Arteta claimed that his side have the quality within them to score more goals, but need to react better when they miss chances.

“I showed the players a lot of images after 54, 57, 63 minutes [of the FA Cup tie against Liverpool], chances and the reaction of all the players was incredible to each other,” he stated.

“Against Fulham I did not like it. At 1-1, Bukayo missed a huge chance and I did not like that reaction.

“The scoreline reflects what the team produces. And we have to coach that, we have to evolve the play, we have to create more situations. That has to fall on us [the coaching staff] – that’s for sure.”

Arsenal’s issue is confidence, not quality

The same attacking players within the Arsenal squad now helped them to their highest-ever goal tally in the Premier League last season, but Gabriel Martinelli and Jesus have struggled to hit their best form in this campaign.

The two Brazilian attackers are top players within their own right with plenty of goals to their names in the past, but have often missed good chances this season.

Jesus looks full of life again after the victory over Forest saw him play a decisive role, and if he can carry this confidence into the Liverpool game, he could begin to silence the critics and deliver in front of goal.

He has been heavily criticised for the chances he has missed this season, but the entire Arsenal attack are guilty of missing opportunities, but they still have the ability to increase their output again through confidence and coaching.
