William Saliba is one of Arsenal’s most important players, and the Frenchman’s future needs to be sorted out very soon.
The Gunners have had the best defence in the Premier League since Saliba became a regular at the start of the 2022/23 season.
He has completely transformed Arsenal’s backline and has formed the best defensive partnership in the country alongside Gabriel Magalhaes.
The focus right now is on the Champions League, but Arsenal need to have a look at Saliba’s contract at the end of this season.
Mikel Arteta reveals private chat with William Saliba about his Arsenal future
William Saliba will enter the final two years of his contract this summer.
The Frenchman is one of the best centre-halves in world football, and every team in the world would love to sign him if he became available.
Real Madrid have been interested in Saliba for a while now, while Paris Saint-Germain would love to bring him back to France as well.
Arsenal will hold talks with Saliba over a new deal very soon, and Arteta has now revealed that he is convinced that the defender wants to stay after having a chat with him.
The Spaniard said in his press conference: “Those kinds of things are more for Andrea and the club to talk about.
“What I’m certain, because I had the conversation with him, is that he is so happy here, that he wants to continue with us and what will happen in the future with our negotiations and things that have to take time and process and be on top of them.
“But, I’m quite confident that William is very happy here, and this is the place that he wants to be.”
Andrea Berta has other contracts to sort out too
Andrea Berta has been at Arsenal for a little over a month now, and the Italian has been a busy man.
A lot of planning has been going on behind the scenes for the upcoming summer transfer window, but decisions need to be made about the futures of some of Arteta’s current players too.
| Player | Contract expiring in |
| Jorginho | 2025 |
| Thomas Partey | 2025 |
| Leandro Trossard | 2026 |
| Oleksandr Zinchenko | 2026 |
| Takehiro Tomiyasu | 2026 |
| Gabriel Jesus | 2027 |
| Bukayo Saka | 2027 |
| Gabriel Magalhaes | 2027 |
| Gabriel Martinelli | 2027 |
| William Saliba | 2027 |
Arsenal will absolutely have to keep Bukayo Saka, Gabriel and Saliba among the above names, while Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard and Thomas Partey could be kept as well.
Berta will have to hold talks with all of them in the coming weeks and months, but the priority is Saliba and Saka.
It will be interesting to see if the new Arsenal sporting director will be able to get those deals over the line before pre-season.
