Mikel Arteta took the time to speak about Viktor Gyokeres when facing the media ahead of Arsenal’s clash with Olympiacos.

Arsenal host Olympiacos at the Emirates on the second matchday of the Champions League, a match that Gyokeres will hope to be a part of.

Rotation is possible as the Gunners look to build on their opening day win over Athletic Club, but for Gyokeres, every minute is crucial right now.

The Sweden international has scored three goals in red and white, which is below his usual standard following his previous two seasons, which amounted to 97 goals for Sporting CP.

Mikel Arteta has been blown away by Viktor Gyokeres behind the scenes at Arsenal

Gyokeres has come under fierce criticism since signing for Arsenal, but his manager is more than satisfied with his summer signing.

Speaking to the media in his pre-match press conference ahead of facing Olympiacos, Mikel Arteta gave an insight into what his striker is like away from the spotlight.

“He’s a really confident boy. His work ethic is incredible,” Arteta said.

“The demands that he puts on himself every single day, it’s a joy to work with him.

“He gives so much to the team, and the ceiling is very, very far, but he can still give to the team, so I’m very happy with him.”

Gyokeres is off the mark in the Premier League but is still hunting his first Champions League goal for Arsenal, something he’s working desperately to achieve.

The Swede will go into the clash with Olympiacos high on confidence, particularly after Arsenal’s dramatic win over Newcastle United

Arteta says he’s loving what he’s seeing from Gyokeres

Gyokeres really proved himself against Newcastle, being a real handful for the opposition with his strength and movement.

Fans loved what they saw from the 27-year-old, as did the Arsenal manager, as Arteta continued his praise for the marksman.

“I loved it. I absolutely loved how he took it,” Arteta said when reflecting on Gyokeres’ impact at St James’ Park.

“He went on board, not a single moment when he was showing frustration. I told him that you’re going to get some decisions, some others not, stand up, you’re going to have two or three players around you in many moments, the ball is in the air, and a lot is going to happen.

“But I loved his reaction, I loved the way he handled the situation emotionally, and also because he was involved in a lot of dangerous moments that he created.”

It’s clear to see that Gyokeres is making a name for himself at Colney, with Arteta having full trust that the goals will soon flow for his number 14.
