Mikel Arteta says Arsenal have been doing one thing that has made him really unhappy

Arsenal have had a good start to the new season.

The Gunners have won seven and drawn three of their first 10 games in all competitions. They have remained unbeaten despite a number of injury issues.

Arsenal are just a point off the top of the Premier League table as well, which is excellent.

Mikel Arteta is definitely pleased with the start, but the Arsenal manager has been frustrated by one thing that his players have been doing in recent games, especially at home.

Mikel Arteta is not happy with the goals Arsenal are conceding

Arsenal, in many people’s eyes, have the best defence in the Premier League.

No team conceded fewer goals than the Gunners in the 2023/24 season, and the expectation is that they will repeat that feat again this term.

However, in their first seven games in the Premier League, the Gunners have conceded six goals.

That’s not an awful record by any means when you consider they played two games with ten men, but it’s something that seems to have struck a nerve with Arteta.

The Arsenal manager has demanded more focus, urgency and cohesion from his players, especially at home, and he has made it clear that he isn’t happy with some of the goals that have gone in at the Emirates.

Arteta told Arsenal.com: “Well, especially the way we have conceded certain goals, with the little things that we have conceded to go and concede those goals.

“There is room for improvement there, it’s about being very consistent and making sure that we play with a level of urgency, cohesion and focus in the reaction, because in the last few games, especially at home, we have conceded goals that I wasn’t very happy with.”

Arsenal would’ve looked worse if it wasn’t for one player

For one reason or another, Arsenal haven’t been as solid at the back this season as they were in the 2023/24 campaign.

The Gunners look a lot more open at the back and they have been exposed on quite a few occasions already this season. They probably should’ve conceded more goals than they have done.

However, David Raya, who is arguably Arsenal’s player of the season so far, has made a bunch of sensational saves over the last two months.

If he hadn’t been able to do that, Arsenal’s numbers would’ve looked significantly worse this season.

Arteta’s men take on Bournemouth on Saturday and the Arsenal boss will demand a clean sheet from his side after failing to keep one in their last three league games.
