Mikel Arteta is finally a Premier League champion with Arsenal.
The Gunners couldn’t even dream of being in such a situation six-and-a-half years ago, when the Spaniard was given the job at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal were in a mess back then, and even appointing Arteta as the head coach seemed like a massive gamble.
The 44-year-old still looks back on that day in surprise.

Mikel Arteta admits Stan Kroenke was ‘so brave’ to give him the Arsenal job
When Arsenal gave the job to Mikel Arteta in December 2019, the Spaniard had no experience as a manager.
From spending a few years as an assistant to Pep Guardiola to becoming the head coach of one of the biggest clubs in the world is a huge step up.
Arteta obviously accepted the opportunity, but a lot of credit should go to Stan and Josh Kroenke for taking that risk and giving him the job.
The Arsenal boss has now admitted he still thinks about their decision even to this day.

He said, as per Arsenal.com: “I think a lot about the day I came here without having managed a club before, and I think how brave this club was, especially our ownership, Stan and Josh were in making that decision.
“They have given me incredible support every single day. Our ownership are exceptional. We are so lucky to have Stan and Josh, and all the support I have from everyone at this club.
“I cannot name everyone, because there are so many, but together they have been instrumental in the journey in getting us to where we are today, and of course, all the players who have been part of this journey.
“That’s ex-players as well who have played here. That’s the biggest lesson for me. We all work hard, and then it belongs to players out there on the pitch.”

The Kroenkes deserve a lot of praise for making Arsenal champions
Almost every Arsenal fan has had a go at the Kroenkes at one point or another.
The owners have made several mistakes in the past, but since the outrage against the European Super League, they have clearly changed their ways.
The Kroenkes have backed Arteta in multiple transfer windows and given him a squad capable of getting the job done.
The Arsenal boss has finally done that, thus bringing an end to a 22-year wait without a league title.
Arteta deserves immense praise, but the Kroenkes should get credit where it is due as well.
