Journalist Charles Watts believes that Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli both benefit when Leandro Trossard is in the Arsenal team.

As part of a scintillating Arsenal attacking unit, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Leandro Trossard have all been in fine form in recent weeks.

With Gabriel Jesus sidelined with injury, Trossard has been heavily involved in the Gunners’ last three matches, starting the last two. The Belgian has been something of a revelation in Mikel Arteta’s side, as he has shone in a false-nine role at the top of the pitch.

The 29-year-old has scored in three consecutive matches, against Liverpool, West Ham United, and Burnley. Saka has also netted in all three of these outings, as he opened the scoring against the Reds, before bagging braces against both West Ham and Burnley. Martinelli, meanwhile, scored a crucial goal against Jurgen Klopp’s side.

As an attacking trio, Saka, Trossard, and Martinelli have been in sensational form, and it has raised questions about other members of the squad. Namely, Jesus has been warned that he will struggle to get back into the Arsenal team ahead of Trossard, based on recent performances.

Bringing the former Brighton and Hove Albion man into the fold also seems to have brought the best out of Kai Havertz. The German is clearly growing in confidence, and naturally combines well with the Belgium international. The connection between Havertz and Trossard has meant that Arsenal can now reassess what it is they actually need from a striker.

Is starting Leandro Trossard good for Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli?

Charles Watts is convinced that Trossard’s involvement in the last couple of matches has had a profoundly positive impact on the team. Speaking on his Inside Arsenal YouTube channel, the reporter said, “he [Jesus] doesn’t just necessarily walk back into the side, because of the performances that Trossard is putting in. He’s such a clever player. He just makes other players around him look good, I think. I really do think that Martinelli and Saka benefit from the movement that Trossard puts in, and the fact that they can all sort of float around and interchange in those positions.”

Getting the best out of Saka and Martinelli is vital for Arsenal, and this is not the only recent change that Arteta has made which has positively impacted upon one of the wingers. The decision to let Ben White play an inverted role at right-back has created more space for Saka to exploit, which he has done so mercilessly.

It has been said that Trossard knows that if he keeps performing to this level then Arteta can’t drop him. Certainly, it would be hard to argue that he does not deserve to keep his starting place. It will be fascinating to see how the manager uses his attacking options once he has a full complement available to him again.
