Gary Neville believes that Arsenal’s second-choice back four is almost as strong as Manchester City’s strongest back line.

Many questioned Mikel Arteta for signing so many defenders; however, this season, his list of options has highlighted why he was so keen to do so.

The Gunners now have a plethora of options to choose from, including Gabriel Magalhaes, William Saliba, Piero Hincapie, Jurrien Timber, Riccardo Calafiori, Cristhian Mosquera, Ben White and Myles Lewis-Skelly.

No team in Europe can boast such options, and right now, that looks to be the key difference between Arteta’s team and Pep Guardiola’s.

Gary Neville believes that Arsenal’s depth in quality is going to give them the edge over Manchester City in the race for the Premier League title.

Arteta has done some incredible work building one of the strongest collections of defenders in Europe, which could finally win him a major title.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Neville said: “Arsenal appear to have made a significant investment in their back four. Timber, Calafiori, Gabriel, Saliba, Hincapie, you’ve got Lewis-Skelly, Ben White, and there’s Mosquera.

“So you’ve got basically two back fours. I think the second back four of Arsenal is almost as good as the first back four of City. That’s how good that second back four is.
