Arsenal could temporarily switch their home ground to Wembley.

The Gunners have been at the Emirates Stadium for nearly 20 years now, and in recent seasons, they have created a fantastic atmosphere there.

Now, owners Stan and Josh Kroenke are planning to expand the Emirates so that it can accommodate 70,000 fans. That would require some serious work, which means games cannot be held there.

Reports have claimed that Arsenal could relocate to Wembley for a season, and that could delight Mikel Arteta for one reason.

Arsenal have an excellent record at Wembley over the last 15 years.

The Gunners achieved immense success at the national stadium, first under Arsene Wenger and then when Arteta took charge of the club.

The Spaniard won two FA Cups and two Community Shields as a player. Since becoming a manager, he has added another FA Cup and two more Community Shield trophies.

All of those wins for Arsenal came at Wembley, which could potentially become the Gunners’ home ground for a season in the not-too-distant future.

Arteta may enjoy that because his record there – as a player and a manager – is flawless.

During his playing days, Arteta was in the Arsenal squad in four games that were played at Wembley, and the Gunners won every one of those fixtures.

Then, since becoming the manager, the Arsenal boss has been involved in four games there, and again, he has won every single one of them.

Arsenal at Wembley will be a controversial decision

Arsenal are slowly making the Emirates Stadium a fortress, especially against the big teams in the Premier League and the Champions League.

The Gunners have picked up huge wins against the likes of Real Madrid, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool in recent years, and a change of venue may hurt that progress.

Additionally, travelling to Wembley will be more difficult for many fans, as it is located about 11 miles from the Emirates.

Arsenal changing their home ground will be a controversial decision as a result, but they may have to do so at some point if they are serious about their expansion plans.
