Arsenal defender Myles Lewis-Skelly could be about to make his international debut for England this week.

Lewis-Skelly received his first England call-up for this month’s World Cup qualifiers, with Thomas Tuchel naming the youngster in his inaugural Three Lions squad.

The Hale End graduate is expected to compete for a place in the starting eleven, with no obvious left-back option ahead of him in Tuchel’s ranks.

Lewis Hall has been ruled out for the season, while Luke Shaw is also out injured, meaning Lewis-Skelly has an opportunity to establish himself in the England senior set-up and make the position his own.

The Euro 2024 finalists take on Albania at Wembley on Friday, before hosting Latvia on Monday.

Myles Lewis-Skelly has revealed what he thinks of Thomas Tuchel

While the likes of Dan Burn and Tino Livramento can both be deployed on the left-hand side of a defence, both players prefer to operate in other positions, and thus, Lewis-Skelly is the only natural left-back in Tuchel’s current squad.

This stands him in good stead to start against Albania, with England kicking their World Cup qualifying campaign off against the Eastern European nation on Friday night.

Thomas Tuchel waxed lyrical about Lewis-Skelly after selecting his squad, and the starlet appears to reciprocate these feelings.

Speaking on the England YouTube channel, the teenager spoke about how Tuchel welcomed him to the England camp.

“He was very nurturing, very warming when I first met him and he has very good presence about him and it’s good,” Lewis-Skelly said.

Evidently building a good relationship with the England head coach already, Arsenal and England fans will be hopeful that this translates to the 18-year-old becoming an ever-present figure in the national team, as they look for silverware in North America next year.

Declan Rice reveals how he reacted to his first England call-up

Lewis-Skelly was speaking alongside Burn and Declan Rice on the England YouTube channel.

Rice already has 62 England caps to his name, and will no doubt be looking to guide his Arsenal teammate through the intimidating experience of being introduced to the England senior squad at such a young age.

The former West Ham man’s Three Lions career commenced in 2019 at the age of 20, and he revealed in the video how he reacted to his first ever call-up.

“Gareth [Southgate], he gave me a call,” Rice said.

“I remember he called me up, the exact same [as Lewis-Skelly], unknown number coming through and then obviously you don’t have the manager’s number saved at that time so they’re just letting you know that you’ve been called up and you think about it, you’re about to join England.

“A complete different setup, new lads, just can’t wait to get going really. It just goes so fast, like that was 2019. It’s 2025, football goes so quick.”
