Arsenal have been linked with a fresh move for Nico Williams in the summer; however, the winger has fewer goals this season than all of Mikel Arteta’s current wingers.
Last summer, Williams was strongly linked to Arsenal, but the North London club never decided to proceed with the move.
SIGN or REJECT: Nico Williams to Arsenal?
Andrea Berta wants to sign a new winger in 2026 and is assessing his options ahead of next summer’s transfer window.
But one thing is becoming increasingly clear: Williams would not be a good value signing for the Gunners, given his inconsistent form for Athletic Bilbao.
Nico Williams has been in poor form amid fresh links to Arsenal
Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka, Leandro Trossard and Noni Madueke all have more goals than Nico Williams this season.
Arsenal have been made aware of Williams’ availability for the upcoming summer window, but Berta should now be looking elsewhere.
It’s become evident this season that the Gunners are still missing an elite-level left winger, with Trossard and Martinelli both having issues.
Trossard has enjoyed a very solid season, but given his age, the Gunners will need to find his successor; meanwhile, Martinelli’s lack of end product in the big moments remains frustrating.
Which left winger would you most like to see Andrea Berta prioritise in 2026?
Mikel Arteta’s team needs a player who can come in and be an instant guarantee, but given Williams’ lack of goals this term, it just shows he is not the answer.
Williams earns big money in Bilbao and would be a big investment for the North London club, especially for a player who has just four goals.
Berta should allow the Spaniard to move elsewhere and instead target a left winger who will hit the ground running.
Yan Diomande could be worth the risk for Arsenal
One player Arsenal should strongly consider is RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, who could be well worth the risk.
Arsenal are linked with Diomande, but are likely to face strong competition to bring him to North London next summer.
The 19-year-old is showing great promise in the Bundesliga this season, with eight goals and five assists in 21 matches.
Despite his age and this being his first full season of professional football, he looks like a left winger that Berta should be looking to sign.
