Former Gunner Kevin Campbell has made a bold claim about Arsenal defender and Sunday’s North London derby star Gabriel Magalhaes.

The Brazilian started off his Arsenal career in incredible fashion. He was our best player in his first three months at the club, but a red card and illness following that pushed him a few steps back.

He spent quite a few games watching from the sidelines and he wasn’t at his best in the games he featured in at the start of the year. Many people started doubting Gabriel, and he has now shut everyone up.

The former Lille man has been absolutely incredible over the last few weeks. He changed the game with a goal against Olympiacos in the Europa League last week, and his performance against Tottenham was just as good, if not better.

Campbell has heaped praise on Gabriel’s aggressiveness. He claims that no opponent wants to test him on a run because everyone in the Premier League knows that they just can’t get past him.

He told the Highbury Squad: “With Gabriel, nobody wants to test him on the run because you’re not beating him. He’s quick, he’s big, he’s aggressive. I just think Gabriel was really outstanding (on Sunday against Tottenham).

Arsenal Insider’s view:

Gabriel genuinely feels like the defender we’ve been crying out for over the last decade. The Brazilian is really aggressive, is rapid for a centre-half and his strength in duels is among the best in the Premier League.

Arsenal’s left side really is coming together. The left-footed triangle of Gabriel, Kieran Tierney and Granit Xhaka is arguably our strongest asset, and it is no surprise that we are faring really well when all three of them start together.

Gabriel will be key for Arsenal in our upcoming games. If he can remain as just as solid as he has recently been until the end of this season, we should fancy ourselves to end the campaign in a really strong fashion – both in the Premier League and in Europe.
