Noel Gallagher says Arsenal star the ‘only’ player in world that ‘no one would buy’

Musician Noel Gallagher believes Mikel Arteta made a mistake when he brought Kai Havertz to Arsenal.

Arsenal signed Kai Havertz in the recent summer transfer window. The Gunners paid £65 million to secure his services from Chelsea.

Havertz has struggled to produce anything like his best form so far in his Arsenal career. The 24-year-old has now made 19 appearances for the north London club, across all competitions, and has only managed to contribute one goal and one assist.

There have been aspects of Havertz’s game which have caught the eye at the Emirates Stadium. Being utilised in a midfield role by Mikel Arteta, the German has won plenty of duels and is willing to play his part in helping the Gunners defend from the front. Arteta will have wanted far more from Havertz in the final third, though.

It is still too early to write Havertz off, but pressure is certainly building on him to start showing a clinical edge. If things don’t improve soon, the 40-cap Germany international is in danger of being branded a flop.

Did Arsenal need to sign Kai Havertz?

Former Oasis member and Manchester City fan Noel Gallagher is already convinced that Arteta made an error in signing Havertz. As quoted by talkSPORT, Gallagher said, “I think Arsenal have tinkered too much with that team. That team just needed Declan Rice and that was it, Havertz has got to be the only transfer in world football where no one would buy him, I think they’ve over-complicated it.”

Declan Rice has definitely enjoyed a better start to his Arsenal career than Havertz. Bringing both players into the Arsenal midfield unit at the same time represented a major overhaul which was always going to take some time to settle. Arteta may well be ‘tinkering’, but it was necessary given the loss of Granit Xhaka and the persistent injury issues with Thomas Partey.

Arsenal did need more than Rice. In fact, they still do. Despite having a limited transfer budget, Arsenal are keen to sign another midfielder in the upcoming January transfer window. Whether they needed Havertz is still very much open to debate.
