Oasis frontman Noel Gallagher has revealed what he thinks of Arsenal ahead of his beloved Manchester City’s clash with the Gunners at the Emirates.

Gallagher is a life-long City fan and will be desperate for Pep Guardiola’s side to secure all three points in North London this weekend.

The Citizens travel to N5 just days after taking on Antonio Conte’s Napoli in a physically draining Champions League encounter at the Etihad.

Meanwhile, Arsenal beat Athletic Club on Tuesday, giving them several days to rest and prepare for the visit of their Premier League title rivals, which should provide Mikel Arteta’s team with an edge heading into the showdown.

Noel Gallagher says he ‘hates’ Arsenal

Arsenal may be without Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard for the game against City, as both players recover from injuries sustained in recent weeks.

Despite these significant absentees, the Gunners remain favourites to overcome the Sky Blue outfit and keep pace with leaders Liverpool.

City will be buoyed by impressive victories over Manchester United and Napoli, although there remain question marks over their ability to defend in transition against effective attacking teams.

Speaking on talkSPORT ahead of the match on Sunday, rock icon Gallagher provided his verdict on Arteta and Arsenal, whilst expressing his hatred for the North Londoners.

“I think we’re going there in hope of beating Arsenal,” he said.

“None of us are going there expecting to win. Do you know what I mean? But we expect a good game and hopefully we can we can get something. But you look at Arsenal, and they just look stronger than us. Do you know what I mean?

“I say this every season, if they don’t win it this season, they’re never going to win it. But genuinely, if they don’t win it this season, I think the manager’s out the door. So, who do I want to win? Out of the two, Liverpool. I hate Arsenal. No, and for the record, I hate Liverpool, too.

“I’ve got nothing against the fans. Yeah, I’ve got a few Arsenal mates and they tend to be quite honest. I’ve got a few scousers in my group as well, and they tend to be bad winners as well as bad losers. So, it’s kind of a toss-up, really.”

Arsenal’s record against Manchester City in the last few years

Arsenal struggled against City for years on end before Arteta took over and transformed the Gunners.

Between the beginning of the 2017/18 season and the end of the 2022/23 campaign, the North Londoners lost every single league match they played against Guardiola’s team.

This was a run spanning 12 matches, in which the Gunners scored just five goals and conceded 33 times.

However, things have picked up significantly for Arsenal on this front in the last two seasons. Arteta’s side are unbeaten in their last four matches against City, winning twice at home and securing two draws away at the Etihad.

They’ll hope this reverse in fortunes against the Citizens continues when the game kicks off at 4:30pm on Sunday afternoon.
