Noel Gallagher slams ‘insufferable’ Arsenal fans and tells them what they need

Musician and Manchester City fan Noel Gallagher has now shared his verdict on Arsenal fans.

There is a real rivalry between Arsenal and Manchester City these days, as the Gunners have emerged as genuine title contenders.

There are also plenty of connections between the two clubs in terms of personnel. Mikel Arteta previously served as an assistant to Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium, whilst Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko are both former Manchester City players. 

Of course, Manchester City have enjoyed far more success than the north London outfit in recent times. The reigning Premier League champions won their maiden Champions League title last season.

The Gunners have never won Europe’s most elite club competition. The closest they came was in 2006, when they lost to Barcelona in the final of the competition. 

Noel Gallagher believes that Arsenal need to win the continental competition for the good of their reputation. Speaking on talkSPORT, the former Oasis guitarist said, “Arsenal, they need it [to win a Champions League]…Arsenal fans, they do need bringing back [down to earth]…I’ve got Arsenal fans in my crew, I mean they get a corner and they are insufferable…I can’t see Arsenal winning the Champions League this year.”

Arsenal must balance Premier League and Champions League ambitions

A Champions League triumph would obviously be huge for the Gunners. However, mounting a successful Premier League title push will be the priority for now, having come so close last season. Arsenal have made a strong start to the season in this regard, and are currently only one point behind leaders Manchester City.

Of course, Arteta will still be taking this Champions League campaign seriously. Arsenal have made an impressive start. They are on the verge of securing passage to the knockout rounds, having won three of their four group stage fixtures so far. Once the knockout games come around, the vagaries of cup football mean that no side can be ruled out entirely. A bit of fortune and a good run could easily see the club go all the way in the competition. 

A surprise Champions League success would certainly give Arsenal fans something big to shout about, much to Gallagher’s frustration.
