Olivier Giroud was a key player for Arsenal during his time at the club.

Arsene Wenger signed the Frenchman from Montpellier after he helped them win the Ligue 1 in 2012. He went on to play over 250 games for the club in his five-and-a-half-year spell there.

Giroud was heavily criticised and mostly underappreciated during his time at the Emirates, but he has received the recognition he deserves since leaving Arsenal.

However, the World Cup winner has now claimed that he did something as a Gunner that will never be repeated.

Olivier Giroud constantly divided opinion during his time at Arsenal.

The France international scored 105 goals and provided 37 assists in 253 games during his time as a Gunner, which is an impressive return for the type of striker he was.

There were a lot of memorable goals, but none more so than his scorpion kick against Crystal Palace.

In a move that started in Arsenal’s own half, Alexis Sanchez received the ball out wide, and he decided to cross it to Giroud inside the box.

However, the ball was behind the striker, which meant that he could not head the ball home.

Instead, Giroud pulled off an incredible scorpion kick and scored what is easily his best goal ever. It’s also one of the greatest goals in Premier League history.

Now, Giroud has claimed that his strike, which won the Puskas award, will never be replicated.

He told L’Equipe: “My best goals aren’t too bad. The best? That’s still the scorpion kick with Arsenal.

“With all modesty, we’ll never see that move again.”

Olivier Giroud’s scorpion kick ruined Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s big moment

Henrikh Mkhitaryan joined Arsenal in the same window that Giroud left the club for Chelsea.

Before the Armenia international became a Gunner, he played for Manchester United, and many people view his time at Old Trafford as disappointing.

However, Mkhitaryan scored his own scorpion kick goal for the Red Devils.

That stunning goal was scored on Boxing Day in 2016, and in an ideal world, it would’ve won the Puskas award because it was that good.

However, just days later, Giroud scored an even better scorpion kick, and that ruined Mkhitaryan’s big moment.

Even the commentator on the day, Jon Champion, said: “Henrikh Mkhitaryan, eat your heart out!” He knew then and there that the former Dortmund star’s goal was bettered.
