Arsenal star Gabriel Jesus has struggled with injury throughout the season, but looks set to return to action on Monday.
The striker was an unused substitute against Newcastle United, with Mikel Arteta later explaining that the club want to be cautious over Jesus to reduce the risk of re-injury.
Jesus underwent knee surgery in the summer after suffering a problem during Brazil’s World Cup campaign last year, and also struggled with a hamstring issue midway through this season.
This did not stop Brazil from calling him up to play in a CONMEBOL World Cup qualifier against Argentina in November, much to Arsenal’s frustration, and his issues have failed to clear in recent weeks.
Brazil have now announced their squad for friendlies against England and Spain in this month’s International break, and Arteta will be delighted as Jesus has not been included.
Gabriel Jesus omitted from Brazil squad
The Brazilian Football Federation have now confirmed that whilst Gabriel Magalhaes and Gabriel Martinelli are in the squad for the two friendly matches, Gabriel Jesus has been left out.
Spurs forward Richarlison has been included, but he has now picked up an injury, and it remains to be seen whether Jesus will be risked as his replacement.
Savinho from Girona has been included ahead of Jesus, and it is unclear whether his omission came as a result of his injuries, or his recent lack of game time, having not featured since January.
Boost for Arsenal trio in International break

Whilst Jesus may be disappointed to miss out on representing his country, this omission will be a huge boost for his Arsenal campaign.
The International break comes immediately before Arsenal face Manchester City in a crucial game in the title race.
With Manchester City stars such as Kyle Walker, Phil Foden and Rodri set to feature in the games against Brazil, there were fears that Jesus could play without returning to full fitness, and pick up an injury before his return to the Etihad Stadium, so a few weeks of full rest could be of benefit to him.
Martinelli and Gabriel will both be delighted to potentially play bigger roles for Brazil in the two friendlies and as long as they do not pick up injuries, they could both gain a confidence boost from their good performances being recognised by their National team.
