Iconic former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit has now claimed that one key figure has unfinished business in the Premier League.
Mikel Arteta and Pep Guardiola will go head to head once again this season. Of course, the Arsenal manager is Guardiola’s former protege, as Arteta served as the Manchester City boss’ assistant, prior to taking the reins at the Emirates Stadium.
In each of the last two seasons, Arsenal have been able to mount title charges, but have been pipped to the post by the Cityzens on both occasions. The Gunners are getting closer, though, and were able to take the battle right down to the wire last time around.
Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp believes Arsenal will win the league this season.
Certainly, Emmanuel Petit believes that Arteta will not give up until he has done exactly that.

Emmanuel Petit makes claim about Mikel Arteta and Pep Guardiola
The Frenchman is convinced that Arteta won’t consider moving on from Arsenal himself until he has guided the Gunners to glory.
Arteta himself has promised Arsenal fans that trophies are on the way, suggesting that he has every intention of sticking around until he has delivered upon his word.
As for Guardiola, who already has six Premier League titles under his belt, as well as a Champions League triumph with Manchester City, amongst numerous other honours, his motivation will be the smashing of more records.
Speaking to The Mirror (print edition, 11/08/2024, page 77), Petit, who won one Premier League title with the Gunners in his playing days, said: “That’s the major difference between Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta when you’re discussing their futures.
“Pep has won everything and has nothing left to prove at Manchester City, while Arteta’s Arsenal story hasn’t had the silverware required for him to even think about leaving the club.
“I think it’s unfinished business for Arteta at Arsenal until he wins the Premier League. I can’t see him leaving without managing that club to a Premier League title.
“If he decided he wanted to move on after that, you could understand it. He may feel like his work is done.”
However, Petit has warned Arteta that if he fails to deliver a major trophy this season then the Arsenal players may begin to lose faith in him.
How can Arsenal overcome Man City?
The margins at the top of the Premier League are now so tight that Arsenal will need to be near-faultless throughout the campaign in order to achieve their goal.
Therefore, it is vital that the Gunners hit the ground running. Arsenal have some tough early fixtures, and they cannot afford any slip ups in the opening weeks.
